Questions often test 2 skills together, such as listening and reading or reading and speaking.In PTE, there is no live conversation and candidate has to speak to a microphone for getting recorded in a computerized system. A computer program then evaluates the speaking and rates the test taker.
PTE is totally computer based and thus uses many innovative techniques to test writing capabilities of the candidate. PTE Academic test centers are located in over 50 countries worldwide and can be taken on any date of the year, subject to availability of seats in the desired centre. In India there are PTE test centers in over 15+ cities.
The Pearson Test of English General (Formerly The London Test of English), these are designed to reward positive achievementsin English language learning. The tests consists of two parts: a written paper and an interview. There are six levels of the General test. Each level is set at one of the CEFR levels.
The Pearson Test of English Academic
PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English speakers wanting to study abroad. It tests Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Questions often test 2 skills together, such as listening and reading or reading and speaking. The whole test is done in a single session, lasting 3 hours and is taken sitting at a computer in a secure test environment. The speaking part of the exam is done at the computer. Your voice is recorded and sent for marking. One advantage of this test is that you get your results very quickly; in about 5 days. PTE Academic is a multi-level test, like IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC.

More than 1,000 locations worldwide to choose from: IELTS tests are conducted in 900 venues in 140 countries. The tests are conducted up to four times in a month. Taking the IELTS test is made easy. Cost of taking the test is paid in the local currency, which in turn makes the registration suitable. 13 days after taking the IELTS test, results are issued. Test Report Forms are sent by the Official IELTS tests centres, directly to one’s institution, provided it has been nominated, either by mail or as an electronic download.
Test Format
One can have choice of two versions of IELTS: Academic or General Training:
Listening and Speaking components are common for both Academic as well as for General Training. Reading and Writing components are different in Academic and General Training. One has to take the Listening, Reading and Writing tests simultaneously without any breaks. Speaking test will either take place after the break on the same day of the other three tests or it may take place after seven days of the three tests or it may take place seven days before the three tests. This will depend on the test centre.
Understanding the format of each section ⇒ Listening ⇒ Reading ⇒ Writing ⇒ Speaking Listening 30 minutes:
There are four recorded text, monologues and conversations by various native speakers. One has to listen to it and write one’s answers to a series of questions. The idea behind these questions is to test one’s ability to understand the main idea and it’s detailed factual information. It is also to test the ability to understand the opinions and attitudes of speakers. Plus to test the ability to understand the purpose of an utterance and the ability to follow the development of ideas.
IELTS Academic There are long texts which range from descriptive and factual to the discursive and analytical. The texts taken are genuine as they are taken from real sources like newspapers, books, magazines and journals. These texts are meant for non-specialist audience. These texts are also apt for aspirants looking for university courses or looking forward for professional registration.
IIELTS General: One is required to read extracts from, advertisements, books, company handbooks, notices, magazines, newspapers and guidelines. ABOUT THE TEST
PTE Academic assesses listening, reading, speaking and writing all via computer in a single 3 hour test session.
To complete a PTE Academic test, you will need to attend a secure Pearson test centre. You will use a computer and headset to listen to, read and respond to questions. During the three-hour test session there will be three main parts to the test: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading. There are twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple choice through to essay writing and interpreting information.
PTE Academic assesses real-life, academic content, so you will hear excerpts from lectures and view graphs and charts. You will hear a range of accents in the test, from British and American to non-native speakers, so you will be exposed to the type of accents you will encounter in everyday life.
